Name:</u> Chase Caine
Name Meanings:</u>
Chase=English, means hunter
Caine= can mean trouble (“Raising Cain”, Skulduggery Pleasant); the surname meaning is Welsh and Gaelic. It means chaste, beloved, fair and beautiful.
Age:</u> 29
Gender:</u> Male
Sexuality:</u> Straight
Family:</u>
Mother=Lena Caine [Deceased]
Father= Unknown [Status unknown]
Lone child
Type:</u> “Normal”
Occupation:</u> Investigator for the KCS (Kanran City Security)
Strength/Power:</u> Can teleport himself anywhere within a 3 mile radius. He can also take along a passenger but it limits the distance he can port and wears him out.
Appearance:</u> Chase is 5’8, has short black hair and grey eyes. Being slightly short-sighted, he wears glasses but he absolutely detests wearing them. He thinks they make him look geeky (though some argue that’s actually very fitting with his personality). He only wears them around people he trusts a lot or when he is alone. He has a lean build to him from his martial arts training, both as a child and as an investigator.
As a plain clothes investigator, he goes round in a simple pair of trousers and shirt. When he is working on the Surface or is hunting vampires in the tunnels below ground, he’ll wear the typical vampire hunter’s body armour over his normal work clothes. On the surface, he favours sturdy boots but otherwise, he wears either shoes or trainers (depending if he is on duty or not).
Chase uses his department-issued a gun if he is forced to use it. (He hates having to use force to deal with crime). When he is off-duty, he keeps a dagger with him (mainly as a precaution).
When being casual, he wears similar clothes but his shirt can occasionally be close fitting, especially when he is trying to pull. When he has to be formal, he opts to wears blue trousers, white shirt and blue blazer and tie.
Personality:</u> Chase loves his work because he is naturally curious but that doesn’t mean he lets it completely consume him. He likes to party too and likes his ladies as well. (Lazarus once commented he was a womaniser though Chase fervently denies this…well, maybe he is just a little bit of a womaniser…mutter, mutter…). He hates vampires like most people but, in his line of work, he has found his hatred has increased greatly every time he has to investigate a vampire related crime. He generally tries to deal with a crime with minimal amount of force necessary.
He is a playful person and has a sense of humour. On-duty, he is determined and is very focussed on completing the case he has been assigned to. On his record, he has next to no cold cases or case failures because of this.
Chase suffers from merinthophobia (fear of being tied up). This is resulted from something that happened at school. (See history for more details).
Chase is very happy in life and has few hopes and goals in life. Of the few he has, he has one unattainable one: to have his mother back from the dead. (See History for more details). His only other one in life is to have companionship, the right woman who he cares for a lot and for her to care for him a lot too.
History:</u> Chase Caine was born in Kanran City to Lena Caine, a single mother who was in her late forties. Chase’s father had left his mum before he was born. Chase’s childhood was a happy one. His mother worked hard to feed and clothe him and to ensure he was always happy. His grades in school were average however his teachers always said if he actually tried harder in lessons, he had potential to get top grades in his classes.
The truth was that Chase wasn’t interested in his school lessons. He was more interested in his martial arts training that he received from an elderly neighbour who was still fighting fit in his 70’s. He trained hard so that, by the time he was 11, he was already a black belt. Even so, this did not stop the bullying he received.
In primary school, the people he thought was his friends bullied him a lot, often leaving him alone and friendless. This carried on into high school. In high school, he got beat upon a lot too. He never retaliated with his fighting skills because he didn’t want to risk getting kicked out of school. His mum would have been infuriated with him. This bullying is what led to his merinthophobia. He was often tied up and thrown into a caretaker’s closet then locked in, yet again by the people he thought was his friends.
After the first year of high school, he became quite the ladies man. He was the school heartthrob and often found himself in trouble as he often end up with several girls at once. Other people became jealous and he continued to get bullied for it.
One day, after getting beat up by the bullies, a young girl helped him by taking him to the nurse and staying with him. This girl was to become his best friend: Franchesca Evans. She would remain his friend even beyond high school.
During this time, he helped his next door neighbour who had taught him but Chase was given a real shock one day when he went round as he found the elderly man murdered. The murderer was never caught and this is what set Chase on his way to becoming apart of the city’s security force.
Chase tired hard after this to get the grades he needed to get an apprenticeship with the force and eventually showed the bullies when he left high school with top grades (he actually chose to work for his exams to get those grades) and landed an apprenticeship with the KCS (Kanran City Security).
His mum was proud of him and encouraged him to work hard everyday. He loved his mum for everything she had done to make sure he was happy and paid her back by looking after her as she developed Alzheimer’s in her old age. She was nearing the end when she caught The Plague. She died the day after, breaking Chase’s heart. The best times of his life had been with his mother.
Because he had been nursing her, Chase also caught The Plague and suffered for days from it. He became suicidal and the only thing stopping him from doing so was the thought of his mother. She would have been extremely angry with him if he did. Eventually, he recovered…but not without consequences.
Once he returned back to work, he found he could teleport himself anywhere he wanted within a 3 mile radius. It proved to be a useful skill when catching crooks.
Following his mothers death, he felt very alone. To fill this void, he became even more of a womaniser. The ladies cheer him up greatly however he still hasn’t found the One for him.
Through sheer hard work (and an impressive arrest record), he has since worked his way up to being an Investigator.
Chase's profile for my Fallen Reach story.
Thanks to :iconunspecified-reasons: for help on the power. I was really struggling with that.
Fallen Reach (the premise, plot lines, etc.) belong to :iconunspecified-reasons: and :iconsk8rwolf:.
The Lazarus character belongs to :iconunspecified-reasons:.
I own Chase.
Skullduggery Pleasant belongs to Derek Landy. (I defintely recommend the books no matter what age you are!)
Please don't use him without my consent.

EDIT: I've changed his power. Teleporting was what I thought of originally but didn't like the idea back then but I've changed my mind, thanks to "The Blue Elf" aka, Kurt Wagner aka, Night crawler from X-Men. (Don't own X-Men by the way!)
